In 1997 2nd Floor Studio, LLC-Handcrafted Gifts began designing and creating by hand the first original one-of-a-kind gifts!
"The name of our company was an easy choice. My first studio apartment was on the 2nd floor of an apartment building on 2nd avenue in NYC. That is where I began my journey as a freelance illustrator and designer."
Later when I married my husband Sol, we lived in his 2nd floor studio apartment in Brooklyn but I continued my work as an illustrator and traveled every day to the 2nd floor studio in Manhattan. A few years later we gave up both 2nd floor studios for a large 2nd floor apartment in Westchester, N.Y. I set up my art studio there once again on the 2nd floor! It is in this home, in 1997 that we decided to create a gift company where we would design, create by hand and sell wholesale. Our son Ian, was then 2 years old and loved the number 2. We did too! It was a simple and honest choice, 2nd Floor Studio Hand Crafted Gifts, LLC was born! This is where we worked and designed all of our gift lines."
Lisa had been working closely with art directors and design directors for publishing companies creating collage illustrations mixed with vintage photos and drawings that were used for book covers and magazine editorials. "Our love of vintage artifacts helped forge the first designs at 2nd floor Studio. On linen journals and wooden keepsake boxes we created themed collages. Each was one of a kind that incorporated torn love letters, postcards, vintage photos and other original artifacts".
The sell was the exciting part for Sol. "Our first buyers fell in love with the unique designs and original artifacts of our gift lines. We love working with small gift shop owners because they share the same values of commitment in seeking fine crafted products and building customer relationships"!
As their customer base grew, so did requests for more diverse gift lines that were no longer one of a kind. In response to their customers needs, a full range of gift lines were designed for Baby, Wedding, Judaica and General Interests.

Sol is a second generation Holocaust Survivor. Both of his parents miraculously escaped the concentration camps. His mother hid and fought with the paritsans for approximately 4 years, while his father hid and then fought with the armed forces as a Russian Officer. The family settled in Troy, NY and when Sol was 11 years old when his family moved to Brooklyn, NY. Sol always dreamed that one day he would start his own business. He graduated with a Business Degree fom Hofstra University and began his career selling "High End" colored stones within the "Diamond District" in New York City. After several years, was offered a position within the financial services industry and remained within that industry for over 10 years. Fueled by his 12+ hour days and his dream for starting a business-it came to be. "The collaboration with Lisa was perfect! Lisa wanted to work on the creative end of design and I was interested in creating the business plans to build our client base". The concept of customer servce was of utmost importance-18 years ago-as it continues to be today. This mindset allowed us to establish a wonderful reputation within the handmade gift industry and most importantly with our cutomers from generation to generation".
